My booklist of 2019

Reading books is one of my favorite ways to gain knowledge, vision and clarity. One of the spots that I mainly read is in the sauna. Well, not in the actual sauna cabin, but in the spa that also offers sauna’s.

Since I started my International Business studies, I mainly read English written books. One of the books that still waits for me in the bookcase is a collection of all the Shakespeare works. I plan on reading that before I turn 30!

Last year, the books I read were mainly focused on mindset, personal growth and happiness. A complete list of the books that I read can be found here.

This year however, I do not have one certain topic that I want to read about. Because I am working a corporate IT job, I thought it would be great to read The Phoenix Project; A Novel about IT, DevOps, and Helping Your Business Win. A well-written book to get a better understanding of IT and DevOps. Also, the books explains what lot of companies currently experience – a shift in how we depend on IT.

The second book I read was a book that I bought 2 years ago and finally got myself to read it. The Happiness Project, by Gretchen Ruben. This book is the written version of a 1-year project that boosted Gretchen her happiness.
For me, the core message this book offered is to be you. Just you.
Don’t like what others like, because you’re expected to like it. Just like what you do and accept it. Being you is what the world needs.

Third on the list is Art of War, by Sun Tzu. One of the oldest, best-selling, books that I have ever read. But, this is not a novel. Not a book to read easily, have fun while doing it and then tell people that you are so glad you read it. However, you will be glad once you’ve read it. This is a book I try to read every year at least once. A great read, in terms of what you can get out of it, for sure.

Book number 4 is the shortest, most childish book that is fun to read for adults. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry wrote this book in 1943 in a hotel in New York, roughly 1 year prior to being shot down on mission for the Free French Forces. I am talking about The Little Prince, an absolute must-read in my opinion.

Currently reading; Crushing it by Gary Vaynerchuk. Updates soon!
